Teachers Strike Action - Starting Monday, March 5

Punjabi Version - Click here

The B.C. Teachers’ Federation has given notice that teachers across the province will withdraw their services for up to three days beginning Monday, March 5. This is part of the ongoing labour dispute between teachers and the provincial government.  As a result, teachers will not be reporting for duty on the following days:

•Monday, March 5
•Tuesday, March 6
•Wednesday, March 7

During this service withdrawal, all classes in the Surrey School District will be cancelled and there will be no classroom instruction. School bus transportation will also be suspended at this time. Parents are asked to find alternative care arrangements for their children during the strike.
We have been advised that there will not be picket lines. Therefore, other services – those not involving members of the BCTF – will continue to be offered.  The following services will continue during the three-day strike:
•Surrey College classes,
•Most child care centres operated on school sites (check with your provider),
•StrongStart early learning programs,
•Before- and after-school care services (i.e. JumpStart Academy, RBC program)
•Community group facility rentals.

As always, the Surrey School District is committed to communicating with parents and will continue to notify parents through newsletters, the district website at
www.sd36.bc.ca , and our Sullivan Heights website www.sullivanheights.com of any changes or developments in the status of teacher job action as it relates to students.

Sincerely,
Mr. R. Hayes
Principal

Sullivan Recognizes Anti-Bullying Day

Bullying has been a social issue that has been around since anyone can remember and its about time that it should come to an end. Although such a drastic change may seem impossible we're taking steps here at Sullivan Heights to minimize bullying as much as we can. Our Community Leadership  class did a number of things to spread the word about Pink Shirt Day and why all of us at Sullivan Heights should not tolerate bullying. We created hype around Pink Shirt Day and the Anti-Bullying campaign by putting up posters around the school and selling pink shirts and wristbands in the hub at lunch. In addition to that we started the new concept of Compliment Cards which are little pieces of paper with compliments written on them. This was a simple gesture to show that doing little things like that can make a big change! (They were also free) At lunch on Anti-Bullying Day all the Compliment Cards were put on the garage doors for everyone to see. This was just the start of Compliment Cards and hopefully next year we'll be able to have more students take part in making them! [Courtesy of Sullivan Heights Leadership]
